This article showed up in the news last weekend in the BBC. A Saudi man stabbed and paralyzed another person. The victim's wishes are that the attacker receive the same punishment under Islamic law. So Saudi courts are trying to find a doctor who will surgically severe the man's spine. 

I am reminded of the quote by Gandhi, sometimes over quoted but it fits well here. He said that "an eye for an eye makes the world go blind." This is coming from a man who was beaten, starved, and put in prison for passive, non-violence. 
So forgot cruel and unusual punishment, this follows the eye for eye, tooth for tooth policy. Is this truly justice or so righting a wrong? At what point do vengeance and justic overrule grace and mercy? 
Just my thoughts and questions for the day...
