I felt like writing about something a little more light-hearted today, though it does have it’s tensions and patrons who will make spectacles of themselves. I am referring to soccer, as everyone except the United States calls, football. Fresh from the World Cup high, the European football leagues started back up this week. The Community Shield Friendly Match was yesterday hailing Manchester United victors against 2009-10 Barclay’s Premier League winners, Chelsea. Football Leagues in Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Russia, and Germany will join the UK in ushering in another great season of football.
Sadly, this sport is missed on the United States. It is even worse that we can call MLS(Major League Soccer) a televised sport. Due to the U.S.’s television aids and marketing, the beauty of sports is missed at times. This, of course, is one of the main reasons why football (soccer) is missed on U.S. denizens. Even our best players, those who took the U.S. to the Quarter Finals in the World Cup, do not even in play in the United States.
Well, for those who care, this will be a great season for all of us who enjoy this phenomenal sport. I will be looking forward to Manchester United return this season in both the English Premier and European Champion’s League.
