Happy Mother's Day, mom (to all my moms)!
I felt that my daily meditation today was quite fitting for Mother's day. Inย On the Threshold of Transformation,ย Richard Rohr states in the meditation entitled, Mother Love:
Our mother's gaze is our first relational imprinting; our mother's early mirroring stays with us our whole lives. She sets the first pattern. If there is no one there to take her place, we are "unmirrored" and "ungrounded," often not at home in our own body.
In fact, for the rest of our lives, we seek that look again; we long to experience someone who takes delight in us. It is the endless look of love that never stops satisfying, and it gives us a jolt of excitement when we perceive someone blessing us with their eyes...in that look of love, the gift has already been given, if only we can believe it and hold it.
So today, mom, I just want you to know how much I love you. Thank you for never withholding love from me, and for always being there. I want to thank you for being a source of support and encouragement. I appreciate everything you have done, for without which, I wouldn't be who I am today. Thank you for giving me, "mother love." Thank you for taking delight in me. Love you and enjoy your day.
