You know the feeling I had. Coming up for air! Like the big sea-turtles when they come paddling up to the surface, stick their noses out and fill their lungs with a great gulp before they sink down again among the seaweed and the octopuses. We're all stifling at the bottom of the dustbin, but I'd found the way to the top.
-George Orwell – Coming Up for Air
I'd like to share some photos from the IDP (Internally-Displaced Persons) Camps from here in Kenya. This is one of a few camps in Kenya and this one has a few hundred nationals living in either tents provided by USAID or UNHCR, or they live in a small brick home build by Habitat for Humanity.
These people are really refugees in their own country. Yes, they are Kenyans and they have been forced here by other Kenyans. They are part of a smaller tribe that has been discriminated against for a few centuries by the Maasai. Since the 2007 Kenyan elections, they have been forced from their homes, had everything taken from them, and some have even been murdered in the process.
I will share more later on these stories and will hopefully have a video by the end of my time here in Kenya.
